The hand gestures of Buddhist statues each carry a distinct meaning. In this ongoing series, these forms are reinterpreted through hands that receive different objects, creating new relationships within space.

20世紀初頭に語られた「魂の重さは21gである」という仮説に
着想を得たシリーズ。
軽く、再生を象徴するコルクを用い、一体ずつ正確に21gとなるよう人型を制作した。
目に見えない心や魂に、重さを通して見つめるシリーズ。

Description.
Each figure weighs exactly 21g.
Inspired by an early twentieth-century hypothesis that the human soul weighs 21 grams, this series consists of hum figures, each made to weigh exactly 21 grams. Formed from lightweight cork—a material symbolic of regeneration—the works ask what kind of weight we perceive in the invisible presence of the mind or soul.

関守石殿
Sekimori Stone Figures

茶の文化に伝わる「境界のしるし」から着想

茶庭に置かれる関守石は、「ここから先へは入らないで」
という境界を示す小さな石である。
この日本の伝統的なオブジェを見つめるうちに、静かに
しかし凛と佇む人格のような存在を感じ、
このシリーズが生まれた。

Inspired by the boundary markers found in Japanese tea gardens.

Sekimori-ishi are small stones traditionally placed in tea gardens and to indicate that one should not proceed beyond a certain point. As I continued to observe these traditional objects, I began to sense a quiet yet dignified, human presence within them. This series emerged from that perception.

鉛筆ちゃん
Enpitsu-chan ("Little Pencile")

ちびた鉛筆

役目を終えた鉛筆を素材に、新たな生命をもつ存在として再構成するシリーズ。
使い終え、短くなった鉛筆から、小さな立体作品「鉛筆ちゃん」が生まれた。
鉛筆は、使うほどに短くなり、最後にはその役目を終えて捨てられてしまう。
しかし私は、身を削りながら働いてきたその姿に、使われた時間や記憶、そして静かな誇りが刻まれているように感じた。
そうした鉛筆を素材として、新たな人格を宿した小さな彫刻《鉛筆ちゃん》を制作している。

Tiny Pnciles

An ongoing series that transforms worn, discarded pencils into small sculptural figures with renewed presence.
As pencils are used, they gradually become shorter until they are finally discarded.
To me, however, their worn forms retain the time they have spent working, together with a quiet sense of dignity.
From these used pencils, I create small sculptural figures called Enpitsu-chan ("Little Pencil"), giving them a renewed presence and individuality.
