幼い頃から、捨てられた古いものを使って、おもちゃや人形を作ることが好きでした。新しい姿になったものを机の上に並べては、変身を手助けした魔法使いになったような気持ちになっていました。

それが仕事になってから、自分の到達したい形になるまで、なぜこんなに時間がかかるのだろうと悩んできました。けれど最近になって、ようやくその答えが見つかった気がしています。

古いものと、新しく自分が作るものとのバランスが難しいのです。

キーワードは「時間」。

時間には力があると思います。経年によって思いがけない美しさが生まれ、存在し続けることで、ものは物語を纏っていくからです。

時間を作品に取り込むことは容易ではありません。それでも、これからも小さな魔法を使い続けられたらと思っています。

長い時間とともに多くの物語を重ねてきたCONTEXT-S TOKYOの建物で展示できたことを嬉しく思います。

Ever since I was a child, I have loved making toys and dolls from old, discarded things. I would line up these transformed objects on my desk and feel as though I were a magician who had helped them take on a new life.

After this became my profession, however, I often wondered why it took so long for a work to reach the form I was searching for. Only recently do I feel that I have begun to understand the answer.

The difficulty lies in finding the balance between something old and something newly made by my own hands.

The key is “time.”

I believe that time has a power of its own. Unexpected beauty can emerge through age, and objects that continue to exist gradually gather stories around them.

Bringing time itself into a work is not easy. Still, I hope I can continue to practice this small kind of magic.

I was very happy to exhibit in the building of CONTEXT-S TOKYO, a place that has itself accumulated many stories over time.
